To cope with the impact of extreme weather on the pig farming industry, Jiangsu New Material Research Institute has launched the 'Phase Change Energy Storage Pigsty', which reshapes the temperature control system of pigsties through a new type of thermal insulation material. This material, with paraffin-based phase change material as its core, can automatically absorb or release heat when the ambient temperature fluctuates, maintaining a constant temperature in the pigsty. During high temperatures in summer, the material absorbs heat to keep the interior cool, while in winter, it releases heat to reduce heating consumption, resulting in a measured annual energy consumption reduction of over 50%. In a pilot project at a pig farm in Guangdong, the use of phase change material pigsties increased the daily weight gain of fattening pigs by 15%, reduced the incidence rate of respiratory diseases by 40%, and lowered the stress rate of sows during childbirth by 35%. Furthermore, this material possesses flexible and moldable properties, allowing it to be directly sprayed onto the walls of existing pigsties for renovation, reducing costs by 60% compared to building new energy-saving pigsties. Currently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs is promoting the inclusion of this technology in the subsidy list for the renovation of old pig farms, aiming to enhance the industry's resilience and sustainable development level, and provide a revolutionary solution for the pig farming industry in high-temperature southern and severe cold northern regions.
